PetMed veterinarians are experienced in diagnosing and treating a variety of pet eye problems and diseases. At every wellness visit, we perform a basic ophthalmic exam to determine eye health. We understand that even a simple eye problem can cause serious damage to your pet’s vision, general health, and wellbeing.

Symptoms of Pet Eye Problems

Many conditions can cause your pet’s eye to appear irritated, from developing infections to eyelash or lid problems. Subtle symptoms that your pet may be in pain include:

  • Eye discharge
  • Excessive tears
  • Tenderness in the eye area
  • Sensitivity to light, squinting, blinking
  • Unresponsiveness to visual stimuli

Whenever your pet exhibits such symptoms, a call to your veterinarian is in order.

There are a variety of additional symptoms that may require veterinary intervention for eye problems, such as redness or obvious irritation, excessive blinking, pawing at the eyes or face, squinting, or any visible foreign body in or around the eye. Bulging eyes can indicate a tumor, abscess, or glaucoma, while dehydration or severe weight loss can cause a sunken appearance.

PetMed veterinarians diagnose and treat many eye conditions, from glaucoma testing to removing foreign objects. We work closely with you to identify and treat eye problems, finding relief for your animal companions and preserving their overall health.

Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialists

We may refer pets with serious or complex eye problems to the specialists at Veterinary Ophthalmology Services. Their veterinary ophthalmologists work with PetMed veterinarians to diagnose and treat problems such as cataracts, glaucoma, vision loss, eye infections, eye cancers, corneal ulcers, eyelid abnormalities, diseases of the retina, and genetic eye problems. They make recommendations to help restore pet health and improve quality of life.

Contact PetMed to discuss the possibility of an eye problem in your pet.
