PetMed offers a full range of diagnostic services, including in-house complete blood testing, fecal exams, and urinalysis. We have in-house radiology services, as well as endoscopic and ultrasound capabilities. In addition, we utilize a professional outside laboratory for more extensive testing, usually with overnight results.

Nashville Veterinary Laboratory Testing

For personalized service, we assess the breed, age, sex, and lifestyle issues when recommending laboratory tests for your pet. Some common laboratory tests we perform include the following:

  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Urinalysis (UA)
  • Blood chemistry panel
  • Heartworm test
  • Fecal examination
  • Skin scraping
  • Fungal culture
  • Test of thyroid function
  • Fine-needle aspirates
  • FIV/FeLV tests

These typical laboratory tests can help us diagnose a variety of conditions in the early stages, before they become serious illnesses.

Diagnostic Imaging

Our in-house veterinary imaging and radiology services offer excellent tools for diagnosis. Some available imaging services include:

  • X-rays—X-rays can be used to evaluate certain conditions, such as heart and lung diseases, broken bones, bladder stones, and gastrointestinal problems. We also have the ability to use PetRays telemedicine services and receive consultations from board-certified radiologists.
  • Endoscopy —The veterinarian inserts a long, flexible tube into the body, allowing a view of internal tissue without performing invasive surgery. This technology also allows us to biopsy tissue for additional diagnostic information.
  • Ultrasound —A device called a transducer emits high frequency sound waves to create either a still picture or a moving image. Ultrasound is painless, non-invasive, and safe to use in examining pregnant patients.
  • Echocardiography—This specialized ultrasound is used to examine size, motion, valves, structure, and blood flow in the heart.

PetMed veterinarians utilize the mobile services of Dr. Bill Lee, a board-certified radiologist at Vision Veterinary Imaging, for our ultrasound procedures. Dr. Lee performs these procedures at our facility, for the convenience of our patients and pet owners.
